School and public sessions

Omotesenke Tea Ceremony

Short answer: Omotesenke is one of the three Sen families. Its lineage traces back to Kōshin Sōsa, the third son of Genpaku Sōtan. A public session may be a demonstration, an introduction or a class, which the organizer should state.

What the Omotesenke name indicates

The name connects a practice with a lineage. It does not by itself state the level, duration, language, visitor participation or teacher identity.

Omotesenke, Urasenke and Mushakōjisenke are the three Sen families. They should not be presented as the only Japanese tea traditions.
